The task force will work across housing, heath, and care sectors to increase the volume and range of housing options for seniors.
Following a campaign by ARCO lasting over three years, the Government has launched the Older People’s Housing Task Force, confirming Professor Julienne Meyer as its Chair.
The Task Force was first announced by the Government in the February 2022 Levelling Up White Paper. The Task Force will run for up to 12 months and will produce an independent report to DLUHC and DHSC Ministers, with interim findings available after 6 months.
The arrival of the Task Force represents a historic opportunity to advance older people’s housing in the UK.
ARCO has argued that a cross-departmental Task Force is required to bring different government departments together to unleash the potential of Integrated Retirement Communities and enact the policy changes required – including smarter consumer regulation, clarity in the planning system, sector-specific tenure models and funding for affordable Integrated Retirement Communities.
As proud subscribers to the ARCO network, we’re delighted that the lobbying for such a crucial initiative has finally borne fruit.
Now the Task Force has been launched, ARCO will be working hard to ensure it delivers on its promises to help transform Housing-with-Care and bring benefits to hundreds of thousands more older people.
